Basketball Offense Basics Part 1

Basketball Offense Basics Part 1

Lets learn a basic of offense today!
First, coaches are infatuated with patterns. That is not a bad thing, but it is a thing. When coaches see things that are innovative, new and involve multiple cuts, they are drawn to it.

The offense also has a variety of options if there's heavy pressure from the defense. If the initial wing-pass by the guard isn't available, the triangle can be created on the other side by passing to the other guard, who then passes to the weak-side forward (who then becomes the strong-side wing). The guard, who initially had the ball, then cuts to the other corner. The center or the pressured wing can flash to the opposite post. If the guard-to-guard pass is not available, the weak-side forward can make a similar flash cut that was mentioned earlier. That also creates many cutting opportunities. If there is heavy pressure on everybody, the center can release the pressure by cutting to the high post for a pass by the ball-handling guard. That would also create space for possible cuts.

From Don KelbickWhat is a game card? It is a card that has all of the plays that you have active in your game plan. Sometimes it is difficult to remember all of your options in the heat of the game. Having a game card to look at will help you be prepared for all situations. I organize my game card by player, plays that will get my 5 man a shot, 4 man, etc. I have found it to be very effective when we need to get someone a shot or if we need a basket.

I’m a basketball coach, skill development trainer, and Co-Owner of Breakthrough Basketball. I currently live in Marion, Iowa with my wife, two kids, and our golden retriever (Izzy).

Now you begin to see the rules create the continuity of actions that Wisconsin’s Swing is knowm for. If the ball is fully reversed to the wing, it would trigger the weakside exchange. If it did not go inside, it would then trigger the UCLA cut off the up-screen. And if it went back to the slot, the flex cut is triggered.

3. *Basic Motion Offense for Middle School / High School Teams – This is possibly the most basic of the motion offenses. Very easy to learn, very effective when executed properly. Included below are video clips of both the animated and live versions of these youth basketball plays, and a handout.

It is said that “plays don’t win championships, players do.” But the fundamental, cerebral, skilled and disciplined players running the Swing have created a hyper-efficient offense that is on the brink of claiming a title.

If you prefer to have players flash to high post, then in the 5 out give them the option to flash to high post when they are on the weakside corner. Teach them to cut to high post when the defender turns their head. If they don’t get the ball in a 3-5 count, clear out to weakside or back screen for a strong side player to get back to 5 out spots.

There is also a quick hitter option if you have an athletic 4 or 5 that can cut. We ran this in high school scored 3-4 times a game. After the first pass goes to the 4 or 5 a few times and the defense starts to try and deny the pass to the high post, the 4/5 can cut backdoor to the hoop for an easy layup. Sometimes, just the eye contact between the 1 and the 4/5 is enough for them to spin back door and catch an alley-oop or backdoor pass.

Lets learn some Basketball today folks. Lets learn some "D". Everything a child needs to learn about defense can be taught with man. Team D is team D a subset of either style. The problems that it creates for the development of athleticism, offensive skill sets along with strategic opportunities for ego driven volunteer coaches to LOOK good and win make it a much easier fix. No zone or technical foul, period! Games will be higher scoring more kids get chances to score etc.

How to Coach the 1-3-1 Basketball Zone Pressure Defenses

The two-foot jump stop has become popular with many coaches and players. It too can also be very useful when doing a step-back jump shot, moving very fast going left or needing to use a quick release shot. However, research has shown that when players learn the 1-2 step jump shot first, they actually will use the two-foot jump stop shot when pressured or rushed. What is intriguing is that this often occurs when the player has never practiced this technique because the player has already learned to control their momentum to stop and square up to the basket from using the 1-2 step jump-shot.

On-the-Ball Basketball Defense

All of these basketball training videos are instructed by an expert basketball coach, and demonstrated by a high level basketball player. That way you will be able to see the way it is supposed to be done, and the coach can break down the specific teaching points of the drill as well.

This creates a definite weakness in the middle, but in order to gain an advantage, there is bound to be a weakness somewhere else. You remedy this weakness by having the two wing players pinch slightly toward the middle and help protect that area. Otherwise, all moves and slides are the same as with the 1-3-1 press. The zone now depends on only four men to double-team and intercept instead of five.

How to Teach a 2-3 (2-1-2) Zone Basketball Defense

Many coaches overlook the importance of adding defensive drills to their practice schedule. Players aren’t going to walk in the gym and start practicing defense, or practice defense at home. So it’s very important that coaches add defense to their practice plan. In my opinion, defense should be the priority of every practice. There are many drills available to help develop your players defensive skills, here are just a handful…

Heels Up -- Coaches in every sport often teach players to "get low" and "stand on the ball of the foot" or "on your toes." These phrases are simply metaphors to more easily explain how to perform this technique. When done correctly, it is actually the area of the foot directly behind and across all of the toes, which includes the ball of the foot, that will bear and support the weight of the body. Raising the heels off the floor automatically causes the legs to bend, making it easier and more natural to lower the body into a slight squat that provides balance, power and enhances propulsion. This bio-mechanically correct contact point of the foot, combined with a low center of gravity, is the optimum position for basketball players to start any movement. Players will then find it easier to sprint, jump, slide, stop, pivot and hold their position.

Basketball Basics 1.0

Basketball Basics 1.0

There are many techniques for ball handling—shooting, passing, dribbling, and rebounding. Basketball teams generally have player positions, the tallest and strongest members of a team are called a center or power forward, while slightly shorter and more agile players are called small forward, and the shortest players or those who possess the best ball handling skills are called a point guard or shooting guard. The point guard directs the on court action of the team, implementing the coach's game plan, and managing the execution of offensive and defensive plays (player positioning).

Lebron James: The King!

Lebron James: The King!

In Akron — where the sign marking the city line announces "Home of LeBron James" — residents are likely to fault James taking in a movie at the multiplex or eating a beefsteak at Ken Stewart's Grille with his infancy approver and business partner Maverick Carter (the M in LRMR; the Rs are for James' sports agent Rich Paul and right hand Randy Mims, also friends from the early days). Though he lives on an estate with a steel security and multiple guard shacks, James doesn't always like to be sequestered. In better weather, he'll ride his motorbike to the office. Everyone here have where James lives; when the rumors empty flying last summer that he would adieu the Miami Heat and respond to the Cavaliers, hundreds of fans (and reporters) showed up to stake out his house. But even here in Akron — where he grew up in subsidized housing, where his mother, Gloria, and his closest friends still live, where he and his wife, Savannah, who have been together since high school, are raising their family (sons LeBron Jr., 10, and Bryce, 7, and a daughter, Zhuri, innate Oct. 22) and where he is a associate spectacle at his alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School — even here, his stardom is all consuming.

LeBron James - Athlete, Famous Basketball Players - Biography.com

I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I orderly didn’t know when. After the season, free management wasn’t even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking approximately what it would be copy to exalt my family in my hometown. I looked at other nine, but I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more period passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me felicitous.

During last night’s Cavaliers-Celtics game, Special Olympian Aaron Miller was honored during a timeout. LeBron James was in a team huddle while Miller was cheered at midcourt, but puisne went out of his way to run over to the kid and show him some love. It’s always fun when an athlete can put this look on a fan’s visage:

The questions come fast. And the reporters who've been talking to Irving pivot en masse to James. He fields questions about how it feels to be on an 11-game winning streak after his team lost six straight, to be the team every other team is gunning for. And he's asked about his lover Manziel, the Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback who that Time has announced he'll be entering rehab for alcohol abuse.

For all he has completed in the past five years — two NBA titles and four MVP trophies — James still is at least partially decide by the disastrous 2010 ESPN dictinctive that announced his "decision" to leave Cleveland for the warmer weather and meliorate championship opportunities in Miami. Criticism came from all quarters, most angrily from Cleveland fans, who took to the streets to burn his jersey. He acknowledges the misstep but stresses that the special raised $2.5 million for Boys & Girls Clubs. "And the negative always sells," he adds. "People love the bad stories more than the good stories. But we book-learned from the mistake."

When I put this to James, he explains that his company is an extension of him and his values — and the fans will terminate its succession. "We brainstorm all kinds of outside-the-box ideas. You can't cheat the audience, you can't cheat your fans, they know if it's authentic. We'll see what occur. Maybe we'll have a little cooking show."

Who is the REAL MVP?

Steph Curry vs. James Harden
(Basketball)

In an effort to make some sense of the wide open 2014-15 MVP race, we’ve taken a look at the top 10 candidates for each and every week of NBA action. Last week, we narrowed our top 10 down to six serious candidates who could actually win the award and four players we needed simply for the sake of rounding out the top 10.

Stephen Curry vs James Harden G2 WCF Duel Highlights Warriors vs ...
Harden is right behind Curry in the postseason scoring ranks (26.7 points per game), and they both continue to showcase an all-around game that has everything to do with their teams' success (6.8 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game for Curry; 8.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds per for Harden). Both players would likely agree that they need to take better care of the ball (four turnovers per game for Curry, 4.5 per for Harden).

“There’s so many factors. I led the league in total points scored, minutes played. Like I said, I’m not taking anything away from Steph, but I felt I deserved the Most Valuable Player. That stays with me.”-Harden

Kobe Bryant's Injury

Kobe Bryant's Injury (The truth behind)

While he belong his superhuman tolerance—“He has the maximum pain threshold I’ve ever seen,” attempt his long-standing physical therapist, Judy Seto—even Bryant ken that he can only push so far. He is coming off two significant injuries. His body indispensably to rest. Recently he saw a top nutritionist, hoping to find some magic diet that would restore his energy to its earlier levels, as if aging is but a matter of changing your carbs-to-protein ratio. “There are certain things that my body can’t do that I used to be able to do,” Bryant admits. “And you have to be powerful to deal with those. First you have to be clever to figure out what those are. Last year when I came back, I was trying to figure out what changed. And that’s a very hard conversation to have.” Bryant pauses. “So when I heed the pundits and kindred prate, saying, ‘Well, he wone’t be what he was.’ Know what? You’re right! I wone’t be. But honest because something evolves, it doesn’t make it any less better than it was before.”

Of course. It’s not like I’m saying, ’I don’t need friends because I’m so strong.’ It’s a weakness. When I was growing up in Italy, I grew up in isolation. It was not an environment suited to me. I was the only black kid. I didn’t speak the language. I’d be in one city, but then we’d move to a different city and I’d have to do everything again. I’d make boyfriend, but I’d never be part of the group, that the other kids were already growing up together. So this is how I grew up, and these are the weaknesses that I have.

Kobe Bryant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That sentiment, of course, raises an inescapable conflict: If Bryant’s only goal is winning championships, it occasion no sense for him to continue playing in Los Angeles. The team is objectively terrible. But Bryant thinks this is a temp arrangement. And while his argument seems implausible, his discursion is as sublime as it is conspiratorial.

Best of the Best!

Best of the Best: Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan

While the Los Angeles Lakers have endured a (predictably) poor start to the 2014-15 season, their future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant continues to rack up individual milestones. In one game last month, he picked up his 20th career triple double and became the first player in league history to record 30,000 career points and 6,000 career assists. And after a 32-point outburst Tuesday night, Bryant moved to within 30 points of Michael Jordan and third place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list — meaning Bryant could pass Jordan in the Lakers’ Friday night game against the San Antonio Spurs. Jordan has always been an easy comparison for Bryant. The two men play the same position (shooting guard), are built similarly (both stand 6 feet 6 and weigh about 200 pounds), seem to possess the same maniacal work ethic, and even have similar-looking games. Bryant’s championship count, five, even rivals Jordan’s six. In the minds of many fans, Bryant is the closest to Jordan the game has seen since Jordan retired for good in 2003. Statistically, though, there’s never really been much of a comparison.
